Hooded Menace, a Finnish death-doom band have released a new song I, Devil Master on their MySpace page. These guys may not appeal to everyone, as their vocals are deep and gutteral, not the terrible cookie monster growling that most “normal” death metal bands do, but still very deep. Give them a listen, the deep, dark, slow tempo of the music should at least in some way appeal to doom lovers.

Yasmin, guest singer on the forthcoming Atrocity album After The Storm, had this to say about the album:

I am very happy about the atmosphere & authenticity of the album, which for me as a vocalist and storyteller is of great importance! The sensitive and skilful mixing and mastering keep the vocals alive, let them breathe and gel beautifully with the music. On the other hand, I love that only live recorded instruments are used in our album and my handcrafted flutes are having the space to voice and paint moods within the overall mix. I truly appreciate that the intention fully works, to have every song as a completed story with its own colours and shades and the tracks were treated accordingly in the mixing process… yet the very different pieces are flowing from one to another, conveying a harmonious and unique atmosphere as a whole in After The Storm.

Another contribution to this is the order of the songs/instrumentals, which works for me for many reasons, some of which are very personal.

I admit, at first I WTF’d. Serious WTFage. Dimmu Borgir supporting kiddy-metal pop stars Korn? Gothic black/death metal titans touring with, hell I don’t even know what Korn are, other than meat for the mass-market pop/metal-wannabe grinding machine.

But then I managed to sit down (after putting on a new pair of undies), picked the torn bits of my hair off the desk and keyboard, and realised that, you know, this may be a good thing. Lots of impressionable teenagers (most of whom will be too young to watch Dimmu Borgir‘s video clips) will now be exposed to some real metal. Of course, Dimmu Borgir aren’t the be-all and end-all of metal, but it will open the minds of the poor children.

So if you’re in Europe and you know some kids who listen to crappy pop-metal, then send them to any of the gigs on the following dates:

Sep. 19 – HMH, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Sep. 23 – Eishalle Seutweg, Winterthur, Switzerland
Sep. 24 – Zenith, Munich, Germany
Sep. 26 – Gasometer, Vienna, Austria
Oct. 01 – Ancienne Belgique, Brussels, Belgium
Oct. 02 – Rosengarten, Mannheim, Germany
Oct. 03 – Palladium, Cologne, Germany
Oct. 05 – Haus-Auensee, Leipzig, Germany
Oct. 06 – C-Halle, Berlin, Germany

These dates mark the first leg of Dimmu Borgir‘s “Darkness Reborn” world tour. The dates coincide with the release of their ninth studio album, which will be out on October 1st in Germany, October 4th for the rest of Europe, and October 12th for the US.
