So with Suicidal Tendencies‘/Cyco Miko‘s forthcoming album, they’ve released a video — well, an audio track via their YouTube channel — of the song All the Way. The album, as mentioned is called The Mad Mad Muir’s Musical Tour, and is being released under Cyco Miko, not as ST.

This track is actually a bit of a change in direction, not that they haven’t done that several times before, but this is quite a different sound. But they manage to pull off a different sound while still sounding familiar. This track has more of a metal sound than I’d expect from a Cyco Miko track, which has typically been Muir’s punkier outlet. There’s none of the palm-muted galloping style riffage that I’d expect out of ST either — it’s really quite a different sound. But some of the weirder squealing, wavy guitar sounds remind me of Infectious Grooves.

Suicidal Tendencies have had to cancel their tour of Australia in November 2011. According to the article, “unforeseen events including illness, family commitments and scheduling conflicts have influenced this decision.” The illness I can understand, but the scheduling conflicts sounds a bit weird. Unless it’s stuff that was rescheduled out from under them, because promoters seem to do that sometimes if they don’t think they’re going to pull enough money. They will be touring Europe in January 2012, however.

So it’s really shit, but we’ve got Cyco Miko’s new album to look forward to, which is due next month, titled The Mad Mad Muir Musical Tour. And then after that, we’re expecting a new ST album in 2012.

Australian magazine, Loud, posted an interview with Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies. Most of it revolves around how the music business has changed and how that’s affecting bands.

Suicidal Tendencies are returning to Australia in May 2011.

Despite not yet releasing their much-anticipated new album, 2010 was still a busy year for Los Angeles crossover icons Suicidal Tendencies. The band released both No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family (a collection of re-recordings of early material) and the Live at the Olympic Auditorium DVD during that 12-month span, to the delight of their dedicated fan base. With the band due to return to Australia in May, I spoke to always intriguing, livewire frontman Mike Muir about the progress of their next record, touring, his thoughts on the Internet’s effect on the music industry, the current status of his funk metal project Infectious Grooves and much more.

Lots of interviews flying around at the moment. Here’s another good one, this time Metal-Rules.com interview Suicidal Tendencies. These days Mike Clark (rhythm guitar) and Dean Pleasants (lead guitar) seem to be the ones getting interviewed the most. This time Eric Moore (drums) made an appearance, even if he only spoke rarely. But it’d be nice to see Cyco Miko every now and then.

The interview is almost 10 minutes long and they talk about the recent ST/No Mercy release which was basically old stuff in the new style showing off the talents of the new members. They have some material ready for a new studio album, but Clark says the timing isn’t right. First they’re spending time touring around the world showing people that ST aren’t dead, and second they’re promoting this current compilation album. Once that’s done, they seem to imply that they’ll work on the new album and then I guess do a worldwide supporting tour for that.

Looking forward to it, and I’m hoping they get back to New Zealand. It’s been many a year since they last played here.

Municipal Waste have just released a new video for their song Wolves of Chernobyl. If you haven’t heard them before, their style is thrash/punk crossover. I’ve heard them called successors to the Suicidal Tendencies throne. The musical sound may be similar, but MW‘s theme is much different. They’re more of a piss-take band. Some of the stuff is hit and miss, but this isn’t bad. It may even motivate me to buy one of their CDs one of these days.

On September 7th, Suicidal Tendencies released their latest album, No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family. This isn’t a new studio album, but instead is re-recorded material from SxTx‘s second album, Join the Army, as well as material from No Mercy‘s second album. They say that it’s No Mercy‘s second full-length album, which I’m guessing is Widespread Bloodshed Runs Red, because that matches the release date and one of the titles on this latest CD, but I thought that was their first (and only) full length album. So no idea there.

I’ve never managed to find any No Mercy CDs down here in New Zealand, so the only stuff of theirs I’ve heard has been on Suicidal Tendencies releases. That said, even this album isn’t being released in New Zealand, so I’ve had to order it. Their last album, Year of the Cycos can’t have gotten a very wide release either, but that was made available as a special order direct from SxTx.

No Mercy is Mike Clark‘s (SxTx‘s rhythm guitarist) speed metal band, and features Mike Muir on vocals.

Also included on the CD is a video of Possessed to Skate.

Tracklisting is:

  1. Suicidal Maniac
  2. Possessed To Skate
  3. The Prisoner
  4. I Feel Your Pain…And I Survive
  5. Join The ST Army
  6. No Name, No Words
  7. Born To Be Cyco
  8. Come Alive
  9. Something Inside Me
  10. No Mercy Fool!
  11. We’re F’n Evil
  12. Crazy But Proud
  13. I’m Your Nightmare
  14. Widespread Bloodshed…Love Runs Red

Generation Kill, the crossover thrash-punk outfit formed by Exodus frontman Rob Dukes and Rob Moschetti (Ex-Pro-Pain, M.O.D.) have uploaded a short preview of their new track, ‘Walking Dead’.

According to Generation Kill’s MySpace page: “The original concept of the band was to break away from the current formula. By embracing their roots and incorporating them into the project Generation Kill is a true crossover band. Each song has its own identity, and mood, which gives the band its original sound without abandoning their influences.

By adding two lead guitarist/song writers to the band, a whole new dimension has been introduced to Generation Kill. While Jason Trenczer adds technical guitar work, Lou Lehman adds catchy riffs and solos.

The final ingredient to the band is veteran drummer Sam Inzerra. Sam has a Death Metal background which adds speed and power to the project. Each member of the band takes part in the writing process. While each member has established himself in legendary and underground bands, let it be known that this is no side project.
