As people presumably have heard, Iron Maiden is announced as the headliner for Australia’s Soundwwave festival late February/early March, as well as a separate arena show in both Sydney and Melbourne.
There’s not a lot of huge interest to me in terms of the other bands at the festival. Slayer, all good but seen ‘em a lot now. Other than that it’s only Monster Magnet and Melvins that stand out, and there seems to be a bit of a fanbase growing for The Sword.
Speaking of The Sword, they are now announced as one of the support bands, the other being Fear Factory, for Metallica‘s Christchurch gigs (and the other gigs soon before and after those such as Melbourne and Japan).
Back to Soundwave and Maiden – I am committed to seeing them any time they come to this part of the world, so if they are going to play New Zealand I hope it’s announced REALLY soon, because otherwise I’ll be buying tickets to the Adelaide Soundwave (strange as it may seem, it works out better for me than Melb/Syd/Bris). If I get as far as buying flights and then an NZ gig is announced, I’ll be very un-amused!
