To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Candlemass will play a 2 hour set that will include the entirety of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Is this worth taking out a bank loan and selling my car and a couple of my guitars to attend? I’m considering it. :(

From the Roadburn website:

Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2011. Originally scheduled to celebrate 25 years of doom at this year’s Roadburn in April, Candlemass ended up stuck in Stockholm due to logistic complications arising from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Candlemass is now scheduled to play on SaturdayApril 162011 at the 013 venueTilburgHolland. Starting at 15.45, Candlemass will perform a very special 2-hour set, which will include Epicus Doomicus Metallicus in its entirety; featuring original vocalist Johan Längquist.

Here’s the poster from last year’s event which was cancelled due to an inconsiderate volcano eruption:

A while back I posted on here about the excellent latest album by Uriah Heep, Wake The Sleeper.

Recently announced are three gigs in Aussie.  I’ve emailed the promoter over there, and NZ isn’t in the picture.

If it wasn’t for the last album being strong I wouldn’t bother.  But there’s some rock bottom price flights, so off to Melbourne I go.

I guess this also means a Uriah Heep special on the Anger Management show in March!

I spotted something amusing on their website today as well, on this page do a search for Zealand and you’ll get to the bit about Helen Clark requesting one of their tracks on National Radio, and you can even download the short clip.

While I’m here, check out Heep semi-acoustic with Ian Anderson, performing Blind Eye.

Metallica have added one more show in Christchurch, NZ. According to them:

We are so psyched to add a second show in Christchurch, New Zealand at CBS Canterbury Arena on September 21…thanks again for demanding that we visit you there!!

Now to the real reason we’re here taking up space on this site…we also want to announce that all of our play dates have now filled up with the addition of this show…that’s right boys and girls, this will be the last date added to the World Magnetic Tour! So if you’re waiting for us to come to the Polar Ice Caps, your undiscovered planet or even your basement, sorry, this is as good at it gets.

It has been a very long, and most amazing run. The number of shows played depends on when you start counting. We are gonna go with what the boys in the band say, ‘cuz they have been out on the road more or less continuously since May of 2008 and that brings us up to a total of 212 shows in 153 cities. Each and every one of them has been memorable and special and we thank you for that. This is where we could spew a bunch of crazy numbers at you…you know the 2.3 million tickets sold, 300 million miles traveled, 3,000 pounds of bacon consumed “shtick,” but you don’t care about that stuff and frankly neither do we. What we DO care about is letting you know the immense gratitude we feel for all of your love and support over these past two and half years. When we embarked on this “magnetic” journey, none of us ever, in our wildest dreams, imagined how truly incredible it would be and it’s all because of hanging out with YOU!

It’s obviously not over just yet, so let’s not get too sappy here…we’re off to Australia, New Zealand and Japan in the Fall for what promises to be some of the loudest, craziest, most rocking shows!

Bugger. It’s just been announced that Baroness will being joining Metallica and Lamb of God for their Australasian tour. I chose not to go because Metallica and Lamb of God are a bit ho-hum and not really worth travelling up north for. But now with Baroness added into the mix, that suddenly makes those tickets a bit more valuable. Pity they sold out in a matter of hours. :(

They’re doing a Christchurch show, which isn’t mentioned below, so it’s possible that because it’s not the “full” show, that might mean not all the bands will be there.

Death Angel are giving away a free ticket to one of their North American tour dates. Not sure if it’s a double or single pass, or if it’s backstage or anything. The details are as sparse as talent is to Slipknot.

LA Guns are doing three shows in Australia during September. I wish they gave more notice for these sort of things. Overkill will be in Australia at the end of September, but I’ve chosen (or rather my lack of funds have chosen for me) to just go to see Exodus here in New Zealand at the start of October.

LA Guns will play on the following dates in Australia:

2nd September – Step Inn, Brisbane
3rd September – The Forum, Sydney
4th September – The Hifi, Melbourne

The dates haven’t been put up on their MySpace page yet, which has them in California on the 21st August and Wales on December 4th.

I admit, at first I WTF’d. Serious WTFage. Dimmu Borgir supporting kiddy-metal pop stars Korn? Gothic black/death metal titans touring with, hell I don’t even know what Korn are, other than meat for the mass-market pop/metal-wannabe grinding machine.

But then I managed to sit down (after putting on a new pair of undies), picked the torn bits of my hair off the desk and keyboard, and realised that, you know, this may be a good thing. Lots of impressionable teenagers (most of whom will be too young to watch Dimmu Borgir‘s video clips) will now be exposed to some real metal. Of course, Dimmu Borgir aren’t the be-all and end-all of metal, but it will open the minds of the poor children.

So if you’re in Europe and you know some kids who listen to crappy pop-metal, then send them to any of the gigs on the following dates:

Sep. 19 – HMH, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Sep. 23 – Eishalle Seutweg, Winterthur, Switzerland
Sep. 24 – Zenith, Munich, Germany
Sep. 26 – Gasometer, Vienna, Austria
Oct. 01 – Ancienne Belgique, Brussels, Belgium
Oct. 02 – Rosengarten, Mannheim, Germany
Oct. 03 – Palladium, Cologne, Germany
Oct. 05 – Haus-Auensee, Leipzig, Germany
Oct. 06 – C-Halle, Berlin, Germany

These dates mark the first leg of Dimmu Borgir‘s “Darkness Reborn” world tour. The dates coincide with the release of their ninth studio album, which will be out on October 1st in Germany, October 4th for the rest of Europe, and October 12th for the US.
