SUICIDAL TENDENCIES cancel Australian tour

Suicidal Tendencies have had to cancel their tour of Australia in November 2011. According to the article, “unforeseen events including illness, family commitments and scheduling conflicts have influenced this decision.” The illness I can understand, but the scheduling conflicts sounds a bit weird. Unless it’s stuff that was rescheduled out from under them, because promoters seem to do that sometimes if they don’t think they’re going to pull enough money. They will be touring Europe in January 2012, however.

So it’s really shit, but we’ve got Cyco Miko’s new album to look forward to, which is due next month, titled The Mad Mad Muir Musical Tour. And then after that, we’re expecting a new ST album in 2012.

BLIND GUARDIAN doing 2 gigs in Australia Sep-Oct 2011

BEASTWARS’ debut album is fucking good

Sorry, I’ve been a slack arse about posting in the last few weeks — I’m busy trying to start a game company among other things.

However, the one thing that’s got me off my fat bum is the debut Beastwars album. I’ve just had a listen to it digitally and I’m going to review it properly once I get my physical copy.

Beastwars is a band from my hometown of Wellington, NZ. They play a kind of sludgy stoner doom.

They’ve got an album release tour coming up over May around NZ:

  • May 7 – Bodega, Wellington (with Razorwyre \m/)
  • May 15 – Hunter Lounge, Wellington (with Kyuss)
  • May 20 – Wunderbar, Quakechurch
  • May 21 – Chicks Hotel, Port Chalmers Dunedin
  • May 27 – Biddy Mulligan’s, Hamiltron
  • May 28 – Thirsty Dog, Orkland

Get pre-sale tickets at undertheradar.co.nz. The May 7 gig was only $10, but I imagine the one with Kyuss might be more.

I’m sad I can’t be at the May 15 gig because Alestorm will be playing in Auckland that day. But I’ll be at the one on the 7th.

So full review forthcoming, and hopefully I can swing it before the tour starts.

They’re in Australia for the Soundwave festival, so have decided to hop over here (and Japan) for a bunch of gigs. Quite frankly, 5 gigs amazes me. I can’t really say I’m a fan, but I like their music enough to check them out live.

NEVERMORE playing Australia in June

Just caught up on this news today.

From the same fine people bring Motorhead and Uriah Heep to Australia in March/April, Nevermore is now playing across Aussie in June.

For some reason (probably for the purposes of marketing spin) their writeup say Nevermore hasn’t been down under since 1999, but I saw them in Melbourne on the This Godless Endeavour tour which was much more recent than that.

Tickets on sale this Friday (11th Feb) and they will be available via the e-ticket option which is good news as OxTix don’t post tickets overseas.

Suicidal Tendencies are hitting Australian shores during May 2011. The dates are the same dates as the Alestorm tour but most locations play one day after Alestorm. So if you’re in Oz, then yo can see both one day after the other. Lucky bastards.

MOTORHEAD to tour Australia in 2011

Motörhead are making it over to Australia in March 2011. So far no indication that they’re going to hop over the pond again to New Zealand. The timing for the tour is about the same as the Finntroll tour, so this might help save on travel costs.

Ticket prices are from AU$99, with Meet and Greet tickets available for AU$499. The latter are limited to 30 per show. That’s only an extra $15,000 each show. They must have a lot of kids to feed.

Dates are:

  • Sat 26 March – Festival Hall, Melbourne
  • Mon 28 March – The Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney
  • Wed 30 March – Barton Theatre, Adelaide
  • Fri 1 April – Convention Centre, Gold Coast

FINNTROLL coming to Australia in March 2011

Finntroll, the Finnish black/folk metallers are coming to Australia in March next year. They’re a bit humourous and are worth a listen, even if you don’t normally listen to that style music. I’m not sure I would pay to go see them separately (even if I had the money), but if they had made it over to the Soundwave festival a month earlier, they would definitely be on my must-watch list.
