Here is a video of highlights of Manowar playing this year’s summer festivals. At three shows (Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey), they played to over 75,000 people.

It’s my mission in life to go see them play just once. Even though their last two albums have been 60% crap, all their others are utterly brilliant. Dammit; I’m going to go watch the Earthshaker Festival DVD now.

The US power metallers, Avian, are releasing a 3 track EP titled The Path some time in “Fall” which means an arbitrary date between September and the end of November. I really wish Americans wouldn’t refer to release dates by seasons. They don’t seem to be aware that a) they’re the only ones who call Autumn “Fall”, and b) seasons are different depending on which hemisphere you’re in.

Anyway, the tracks for the EP are:

1: The Path
2. When The Night’s Undone, S.S. (Instrumental)
3. The Fear (Live Acoustic)

Running time is about 20 minutes. The third track won’t be featured on their forthcoming full length album, which is scheduled to be released early 2011.

In addition, their bassist and backing vocalist, Brian Hollenbeck, has taken the reigns as the band’s new singer.

From a press release by Kamelot:

earMUSIC, the international rock label of the Hamburg-based entertainment group Edel, has announced the signing of American/Norwegian melodic metallers KAMELOT. The band’s new studio album, “Poetry For The Poisoned“, will be released in Europe on September 3, 2010.

[snip a bunch of wanking on about how great the band are]

Poetry For The Poisoned will also be available as a limited edition hard-cover digipak CD with a bonus DVD, LP and limited collector’s edition featuring a bonus 45″ vinyl with two rare songs only available on this strictly limited format, personally signed by the band.

Read the rest of the press release here.

I’m particularly looking forward to that limited digi. Even though it seems that every band and their dogs are doing limited digis now, to me it just means that the common jewel case format is worthless. For a couple of dollars more, a better quality package is available, often with bonuses.

Swedish power metallers, Wolf, perform The Bite at Hammer Open Air Metal Festival 2010, which according to Brave Words, took place on June 11 & 12 in Leito, Finland. But the video has a date of 13th June.

Apparently it’s fan footage, but the audio and video quality are very good. Worth a watch.

As an unrelated side note, the festival’s official page does not support Internet Explorer, a move which I heartily approve of. I just got the message because I use Chrome, but this pleases me. If only more sites would stop supporting Microsoft’s proprietary shit, the world would be a better place.
