Here’s an interview with Jari on tour in Austria. This was recorded at the Metalfest festival on May 29. The funniest bit is when the forthcoming album Time is compared to Duke Nukem Forever.

Shannon Joy at the LA Music blog has done a very good interview with Fenriz of Darkthrone.

Darkthrone were one of the pioneers of black metal, but have evolved into a crustier punk/thrash style. And that’s not mentioning the countless other bands/music projects Fenriz has taken part in over the last couple of decades. Even though I’m not a fan of his earlier work, I do like his new stuff and have a great deal of respect for him as a person and as a musician.

He’s one of the few in the industry who has his head screwed on right. And has a sense of humour.

This is worth a read even if you don’t listen to his music.

Heard it on the X posted an interview with Lita Ford. In it she mentions that she’s planning a new studio album which is currently being written. Ford hopes for a spring (northern hemisphere) release and a summer tour.

On top of that, Lita spoke of wanting to write a book. One in which she will talk about the music and growing up a girl in an industry dominated by men. She hopes it will be inspirational for a new generation.

Peek from the Pit has done an interview with Gus G (guitarist for Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne). They talk about Gus‘ touring schedule for 2011 and the work he’s had to go through to become Ozzy’s new guitarist.

In March Firewind are headlining in Japan, then Gus will spend 7 or 8 months touring with Ozzy, and the indication is that Firewind will embark on a world tour near the end of the year. I’d love to see them in New Zealand, but I might start saving money now in case they at least make it to Australia.

Bryan Stars, the kid who asks the questions you won’t hear anywhere else, interviews Joel and Ryan O’Keefe of Airbourne on their American tour. It’s pretty funny too. Asking the bands questions that actually have to think about results in hilarity.

Australian magazine, Loud, posted an interview with Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies. Most of it revolves around how the music business has changed and how that’s affecting bands.

Suicidal Tendencies are returning to Australia in May 2011.

Despite not yet releasing their much-anticipated new album, 2010 was still a busy year for Los Angeles crossover icons Suicidal Tendencies. The band released both No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family (a collection of re-recordings of early material) and the Live at the Olympic Auditorium DVD during that 12-month span, to the delight of their dedicated fan base. With the band due to return to Australia in May, I spoke to always intriguing, livewire frontman Mike Muir about the progress of their next record, touring, his thoughts on the Internet’s effect on the music industry, the current status of his funk metal project Infectious Grooves and much more.

Metal Underground have posted a short interview with Tom Angelripper of Sodom. In it he talks about their latest album, In War and Pieces, and the status of their cancelled tour in the US.

xFiruath: What’s going on with the band as Sodom heads toward its 30 year anniversary?

Tom: We started in ’82 and it’s going to be in 2012, so we’re definitely going to celebrate it. But everything’s fine. It’s been a long time and we have a new drummer now. Our drummer Bobby left the band a few weeks ago because of some personal problems. We have a new drummer for our next tour. We’re just looking forward.

xFiruath: Before we discuss the new album, are you guys working on any other projects?

Tom: Yes, at the time I’m in the studio with another project called Uncle Tom. It’s German lyrics and kind of metal music. We are looking for a new deal at the time. I hope we can bring it out April or May next year.

xFiruath: Tell me about the latest album “In War and Pieces.”

Tom: At the time I’m really satisfied with what’s going on. I’ve got a lot of fair views from magazines and fans who really like it. We started the production with Waldemar Sorychta and I’m so satisfied. We spent the money for a high tech studio and the producer so we could work for a long time to get it finished. In Germany it’s been really successful. I’m so glad it’s out now.

Lots of interviews flying around at the moment. Here’s another good one, this time Metal-Rules.com interview Suicidal Tendencies. These days Mike Clark (rhythm guitar) and Dean Pleasants (lead guitar) seem to be the ones getting interviewed the most. This time Eric Moore (drums) made an appearance, even if he only spoke rarely. But it’d be nice to see Cyco Miko every now and then.

The interview is almost 10 minutes long and they talk about the recent ST/No Mercy release which was basically old stuff in the new style showing off the talents of the new members. They have some material ready for a new studio album, but Clark says the timing isn’t right. First they’re spending time touring around the world showing people that ST aren’t dead, and second they’re promoting this current compilation album. Once that’s done, they seem to imply that they’ll work on the new album and then I guess do a worldwide supporting tour for that.

Looking forward to it, and I’m hoping they get back to New Zealand. It’s been many a year since they last played here.
