Initially U.D.O. were going to release Rev Raptor on January 14, 2011, however because of the re-emergence of Steve Kaufmann‘s (guitarist) back problems, that got pushed out to March. Now it’s been delayed again, this time until May 20, 2011. Let’s hope Steve’s doing well and that we can get this moving. Dominator feels like it was released so long ago.

Still no details are available as to the cover art or tracklist.

Lots of interviews flying around at the moment. Here’s another good one, this time Metal-Rules.com interview Suicidal Tendencies. These days Mike Clark (rhythm guitar) and Dean Pleasants (lead guitar) seem to be the ones getting interviewed the most. This time Eric Moore (drums) made an appearance, even if he only spoke rarely. But it’d be nice to see Cyco Miko every now and then.

The interview is almost 10 minutes long and they talk about the recent ST/No Mercy release which was basically old stuff in the new style showing off the talents of the new members. They have some material ready for a new studio album, but Clark says the timing isn’t right. First they’re spending time touring around the world showing people that ST aren’t dead, and second they’re promoting this current compilation album. Once that’s done, they seem to imply that they’ll work on the new album and then I guess do a worldwide supporting tour for that.

Looking forward to it, and I’m hoping they get back to New Zealand. It’s been many a year since they last played here.

The Daily Rock have done a good interview with Tryptikon‘s Tom G Warrior. They talk about inspirations, the falling out of Celtic Frost, and Giger. It’s two parts and is almost 20 minutes long.

The Lemmy movie will finally be arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray in early 2011. The dates seem to be confused as in one sentence they’re saying January 24, and in another sentence they’re saying February. Maybe they’re for different releases in different countries, but it’s not clear. In January, it will be screening at some cinemas across the US and has already had a cinema release in the UK in October 2010.

In an astoundingly retarded move, apparently the US release version is going to be the only one to carry all the bonus material. What the fuck is up with that? Why don’t the bastards just release one version internationally? Why make some people in the world have to be lumped with a cut-down edition? This sort of shit really pisses me off.

If the US version isn’t zone locked, or if it gets distribution here in NZ, then I’ll pick it up, even if I have to import it. But it’s annoying that they’re going to do different versions. Mind you, this is perfectly normal practice. I recently had to import a limited edition Triptykon LP because it only got a European release.

Lemmy” is a documentary covering the life and career of Motörhead frontman, Lemmy Kilmister.

Here’s the new trailer:

Category: Wednesday WTF?!?!

I won’t say too much here because you can easily check out their Wikipedia and Facebook pages.

They definitely fit the “WTF?!?!” category.  Metal but not metal.  Theatrical to an extent.  Avant-Garde as they say.

Some reference points which are poor individually but perhaps collectively might give you some idea – somewhere between Ataraxia‘s Paris Spleen album, Devil Doll, Therion, and ArcturusLa Masquerade Infernale.   That Arcturus album deserves a Wednesday WTF?!?! of it’s own, heh heh.

But it’s all somewhat tongue-in-cheek, with dashes of jazz, lounge, and as their name suggests, some swing in there as well.

Have fun…

DJ Shredder of Metal Assault Radio has done a video interview with Forbidden, the tech-thrash band who recently released the album Omega Wave. They talk about things like creating an album when the band members are across the planet, the impact of the Net on the music, and 70,000 tons of metal.

Respect to DJ Shredder for his fine taste in music. Not only does he have a Suicidal Tendencies hat, but he’s sporting a Lich King t-shirt too.

Jag Panzer are releasing their first album since 2004, entitled Scourge of the Light. Jag Panzer are mostly hailed as a power metal band, but I see a lot of prog influences too. Since Chris Broderick left, the band have replaced him with Christian Lasegue, who was in Jag Panzer in the late ’80s.

Scourge of the Light is set to be released in February 2011 through Steamhammer. The album’s tracklist is:

  1. Condemned To Fight
  2. The Setting Of The Sun
  3. Bringing On The End
  4. Call To Arms
  5. Cycles
  6. Overlord
  7. Let It Out
  8. Union
  9. Burn
  10. The Book Of Kells

And the cover is painted by Justin Yun:

  5. Big Gun
  6. T.V. Wife

  8. Follow Me
  9. I’ll Never Grow Up Now
  10. Lady’s Boy
  11. Leader Of The Pack
  12. Under The Blade
  13. Shoot ‘Em Down

You Can’t Stop Rock’n'Roll is getting 3 bonus tracks:

  1. The Kids Are Back
  2. Like A Knife In The Back

Jari Mäenpää of Wintersun has released the following announcement on their homepage in regard to their second album, Time:

Hi everyone! It’s been a while.

I’ve been working very hard with the synths&orchestrations and I can finally say that I’m feeling very positive about finishing this long and gruesome task by christmas. So hopefully around the end of December I can finally start mixing the album. I still have a few vocal parts unfinished, but I will be singing them meanwhile I’m mixing.

The only problem about the mixing is that my current computer gear simply cannot handle these insanely huge projects. And the other problem is that I have no money for new gear. So we have discussed about this problem with our label&management and they have agreed to help us with an advance to buy new and more powerful computer gear, but only if we agree to play a few shows and show people that Wintersun is still alive. So after carefully weighting all the different possibilies, we think we need to play these shows to help the completion of the album.

The shows will be for now:

Metalfest (3 shows)
Metalcamp (1 show)

There’s lot of work and preparation to do for these shows, ’cause we have to update our live gear as well, sort out technical difficulties and of course rehearse the songs. This will most likely affect negatively with the mixing schedule, so I can’t give any predictions with that yet. I also need to try out the new computer gear first and see how it handles these projects. The software is still not 64-bit, so the “infamous 4GB RAM limit” might also be a problem with the mixing, since these projects already eat about 3GB without any plugins. But I will do my best to overcome this challenge the fastest way I can.

And no worries, these shows will definitely not be cancelled. So we are looking forward to you guys, see you at the gigs! Who knows, we might even play a one new riff… I mean a song! ;)

So it looks like we’ll get an early 2011 release for Time.
