Now this isn’t normally what you’d expect to see on The Metal Lounge, but this isn’t your run-of-the-mill Tom G Warrior band.

Warrior, known for black metal titans Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, has recently started a new project after the disbanding of Celtic Frost. This new project is called Triptykon. It still has some black elements to it, but is quite different to a lot of his earlier work (from what little I’ve heard). He likes to call Triptykon Dark Metal. It’s long, sometimes slow, but often brutal and never boring. It’s well worth a listen on YouTube if you’ve not heard it before. I’ll try and do a full album review of it sometime soon.

The album Eparistera Daimones was released in March 2010, and he’s just recently announced the release of a follow-up EP called Shatter. So I was going to get Shatter on CD until I saw this. Century Media are selling a vinyl box set called the Complete Sessions which includes the following:

  • Esparistera Daimones on double LP picture discs with gatefold cover with printed inner sleeves
  • 2 posters
  • the new Shatter EP picture disc

This is limited to 500 signed copies and the picture discs (with art by HR Giger) are only available exclusively through this boxset. It’s 47.99 EUR, and I’m hoping like fuck it’s available outside Europe otherwise I’ll be really slutted. Make sure to leave me a copy because I don’t get paid until tomorrow.

Oh yeeeeaaahh..

Mad fucking props to Peaceville/Burning Shed in the UK. I just ordered my copy of the Candlemass Limited Edition Nightfall re-release on gold vinyl, what? 5 days ago? And I already have it in my hands. It may have been here earlier, but I haven’t checked my PO Box for a couple of days. Damn. Well packed too, as one would hope.

Real nice. I can’t wait to get home so I can cover it in whipped cream and rub it all over my body. MMMmmmm.. Here are photos (pre-whipped cream):

The apparent marks on the disc are just reflections from the lights above.

Do you like Kreator? Good. So does Avenger of Blood. A currently non-active but nonetheless killer neo-thrash band from the bay area. This is the third track off of their second full length, Death Brigade (cover art by the guy who did Motorhead’s), which is a no-nonsense thrash assault. Basically, if you enjoy 80s Kreator, this album is right up your alley.

Featuring an awful snare tone and some slipshod mixing (turn your mids up guys), this is still a fun album, that if I didn’t know better would say was recorded in 87 and only 400 copies were made. The band is currently going through some rather rough lineup issues, but hopefully they can regroup and record something else while the neo-thrash scene is still strong.

Neither this song or album will change anybody’s thoughts on thrash metal, but to the die-hard thrasher it’s a very competent recording to worship Pleasure to Kill. Other song highlights are “Poserslaughter” and the title track.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Candlemass will play a 2 hour set that will include the entirety of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Is this worth taking out a bank loan and selling my car and a couple of my guitars to attend? I’m considering it. :(

From the Roadburn website:

Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2011. Originally scheduled to celebrate 25 years of doom at this year’s Roadburn in April, Candlemass ended up stuck in Stockholm due to logistic complications arising from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Candlemass is now scheduled to play on SaturdayApril 162011 at the 013 venueTilburgHolland. Starting at 15.45, Candlemass will perform a very special 2-hour set, which will include Epicus Doomicus Metallicus in its entirety; featuring original vocalist Johan Längquist.

Here’s the poster from last year’s event which was cancelled due to an inconsiderate volcano eruption:

It seems that exclusively available via MetClub (Metallica‘s fanclub), they will be selling a 1000 copy limited edition purple double vinyl version of Master of Puppets. I expect, like their tickets in NZ, that these will sell within minutes. Here’s the copy according to Brave Words:

This Thursday, October 14th at 1:00pm PST, Warner Bros. Records and MetClub.com will each be holding a one-time sale of Master of Puppets on deluxe PURPLE vinyl! This limited edition colored vinyl set comes as a double gatefold, two-disc, 180 gram, 45 rpm version and was half-speed mastered from the original analog tapes at Mobile Fidelity for the ultimate listening experience! Only 1,000 copies of this special set were pressed and were never released to retail. Limit one per customer. Be there this Thursday to secure your copy and don’t miss out! In the meantime, browse our entire selection of albums available on vinyl and deluxe vinyl formats here.

Of course, I don’t have a club membership because I don’t like them any more, but having said that, if they announce Ride the Lightning or …And Justice For All as super supreme vinyl, then maybe I’ll care.

They’re also holding a voting contest to see what goes on their second Australia/NZ exclusive live EP. Again, you have to be a member, but if you’re already gay for Metallica, then you probably know all this already.

Helloween have posted a video clip for the song Are You Metal? from their forthcoming album 7 Sinners. This track is heavy and fast and full of good solid riffs. If they do a whole album that sounds like this, then I’ll be a very happy metalhead.

Gus G and Apollo Papathanasio have made a video with a track by track breakdown of all the songs in the upcoming album Days of Defiance, which is due for release on October 25th via Century Media.

It sounds like it’s got some good tracks. If you love speed metal or epic power metal, then this album shouldn’t disappoint.
